CERVICAL CANCER SCREENING

Tanzania has one of the highest rates of cervical cancer in the world; it is the leading

cause of cancer-related deaths among women in the nation; and the uptake of cervical

cancer screening in the population remains persistently low - these are the challenges

that we are striving to overcome at Ebenezer Healthcare in Dar es Salaam.

Over recent months, we have been busy make preparations to commence our cervical cancer screening campaign.

Our doctors and nurses have attended training days at the local government hospital where they have revised the latest guidelines, received hands-on training on how to accurately perform the screening and reviewed the process around the follow up of results.

We have also conducted in-house training at Ebenezer Healthcare about the benefits of early screening, diagnosis and treatment of cervical cancer. Moreover, this training focused on the importance of raising awareness and encouraging all eligible women to be screened.

From the reception staff, to the nurses in maternal and child health appointments, to the doctors in outpatient consults, it is everyone’s responsibility to educate patients and offer cervical cancer screening to women.

The marketing team has been working hard on a social media campaign to raise awareness of this treatable condition and to promote the free cervical cancer screening available.

We will also be engaging local health

workers to spread the word from house to house in our community.
